Richter's Manifesto
Dear Margaret,

Upon your leaving the house each morning I will promptly climb on to the back of the couch. The cat does it, therefore I feel I am entitled to as well. Once comfortably positioned, I will stare out the window for hours. I will watch squirrels. I will bask in the sun. You, being at work, cannot stop me.

When you arrive home, you may catch a glimpse of me in the window. But I, with a grace and stealthiness heretofore unknown to bulldogs, will be off the couch before you can catch me in the act.

You may wonder what that bulldog-sized dent in the cushion is from. You may fret over the ripped fabric and protruding stuffing. You may be puzzled by the presence of crusted-over drool that reappears no matter how often you clean it. Ah yes, you may wonder... but you will have no proof that it was me. Bwaa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Until the day I slip and climb up while you're blogging. Damn it all.

Your faithful companion,

Richter

i'm a big fan of dog entries, if you couldn't tell. how many other animals do you have?

That is classic. I think that beats kitty on the shelf in my pantry.

I have Richter and my big, fat cat, Pongo. I love 'em. Peanut was so cute with the animals this summer. Richter spent a few days tied up while Peanut got used to him. But Peanut would stand on the other side of the room and roll toys and treats to the dog. Once Peanut even tried feeding Richter a plum.

Entirely entertaining, but a bit troubling.

Peanut will be home soon, I just know it...wanna know how I know such fabulous information?

YOU, my friend, are losing your mind.

Last week, it was photos of your tv in the bedroom, now you are hearing the voice of, albiet wonderful and handsome, your dog! The only cure, and hope of you retaining your sanity, is for you and your son to be reunited.

I have taken the liberty of sending every speck of my saved up wishes (those given to me for spotting the first robin on the season, shooting stars, and eyelashes that have landed on my cheek only to be blown away with a hope, etc.)to Russia.

I'm certain that they have been received by the "Ministry of Wonderful Humans that unite Children and their Rightful Parents" (I made that title up, because I just don't know the name of the unit that is responsible for this)and action is quickly coming your way.

I do hope, along with the hope I have shared, I have not bored you to tears with this prolonged post. I have caught your insomnia and have been up since 3:14am, drinking a wonderful Sumatra Blend, NOT decaf.

Enjoy the day, it's one day closer to the return of Peanut.

Hi Margaret,

I am new to your blog and have had a nice morning sipping my coffee and lurking through your archives.

Good luck with your travels back to Peanut...

God I love bulldogs!!! Richter is awesome, and he does look pretty guilty in the photo. Well either that or he's thinking "ok, take the picture already so I can go back to drooling on my nice comfy couch..."

thanks for sharing this with me... CLASSIC.

this new Boob behavior just crept up in the last few months- and it CRACKS me up that he literally "hides" behind those pillows. that photo was in no way "staged"! leave it to Boob.
